Coventry City's midfielder, Kevin Thornton has left the club by mutual consent. In reality he was sacked following his recent court appearance and conviction for drink driving.

The club  decided to sack Thornton after an internal investigation into his behaviour. He was convicted of being over twice the drink drive limit, of failing to stop after an accident, not having a full licence and not having insurance. He was fined £2,750, ordered to pay £260 in costs and compensation and was banned from driving for 22 months.

A club statement reads: "Midfielder Kevin Thornton has left Coventry City by mutual consent. Neither Coventry City nor Kevin Thornton will be making any further comment on the matter."
