Thorn the motivator

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn spoke at length to his squad after the 2-2 draw with Blackpool telling them that their lowly league position is not reflecting their overall performances and that they are in a false position.

He said to the CT at the club's weekly press conference: “I had a really good chat with the boys this week about the fact that we feel we should be a lot higher in the league but we will keep going and picking points up.

“I think we are in a false position at the moment because I am sure there are seven or eight extra points that we could have had this season , but we’ll keep chipping away game by game and we’ll see where we end up. As long as I can keep everyone fresh and out of the treatment room we’ll be fine.”

Thorn has been working on the recurring theme of of conceding late goals that have taken points off his side, a factor he attributes to inexperience

He explained: “The times and manner in which the goals have come against us have been tough to take, but we are a young team and there will be individual errors.

“People get tired minds late on and we have tended to switch off, not deliberately, but the two goals at Palace were down to individual errors, and again the other night from the corner and marking.

“So it is important that we focus, but inconsistency is to be expected with what we have. But we are not going to get bogged down with it. We are going up there to get a result and it’s important it doesn’t become a problem.

"Experienced heads take it by storm and do things professionally, so it is important we do things right to the end, but because we are learning in the first team rather than in the reserves or youth team so, unfortunately, when we make mistakes we get punished. And it feels like that is happening a lot to us at the moment.”
