Things Are Tight Between City And Sheffield United

Tomorrow night will see the 54th game between Coventry City and Sheffield United,

The Blades are only the third side that City have met in the Johnstones Paint Trophy and it will be only the third time that the two sides have met in cup competitions.

Both of the cup meetings have been in the FA Cup and were in March 1998 when there was a 1-1 draw at Highfield Road and a 1-1 draw at Bramall Lane, meaning that the game went to penalties which United won 3-1.

Of the 53 matches played, City have won 17 and drawn 18 with 18 losses. They have scored 62 goals to Sheffield United's 63.

United's biggest wins in Coventry were a 4-2 win in August 1949, a 3-1 win in March 1993 and a 3-0 win in April 1939, Their heaviest loss in Coventry was a 3-0 defeat in November 1972.
