The Wait For Clingan Goes On

Coventry City supporters will have to wait a bit longer to see Sammy Clingan in first team action.

Although the Ulsterman made a brief appearance during the win against Peterborough United, he now has tendinitis in his Achillies and a bursa on his heel which will keep him out of the Boxing Day game against Doncaster Rovers and possibly Monday's trip to Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to the CT, Chris Coleman said: “Sammy won’t be ready for the weekend.  the City boss. “He’s got tendinitis in his Achilles and a bursa on his heel which we’re trying to sort out.

“He’s had it scanned again and it doesn’t look that bad, but tendinitis is always a funny thing and bursas can be murder when you get them.

“I had one when I was a player and I had to adapt the back of my boot with softer leather.

"I don’t know if Sammy’s going to have to do that but we’ll have a look at it. It’s deeply disappointing for him and us because the metatarsal is fine but now this has popped up.

“Sammy’s itching to get back because he’s that sort of player – he loves his football and his training.

"He’ll be pushing for a return and we want him back as quickly as possible because he’s a very important member our squad.

“We haven’t got anybody else like him but then I don’t think that there are many teams in our division who do, a player who can sit in there, break it up for you and launch a counter-attack.

"In the space of a couple of seconds he can cut out an opposition pass and then deliver a 50 or 60-yard ball that completely turns the game on its head.

“But we have got to be careful not to push him too hard – or let him push himself – because it’s no good to anybody if he gets back in the team but then breaks down again.”
