The Jimmy Hill Way - Bandwagon To Wembley

The Jimmy Hill Way Campaign Update:

Almost 30 years ago on 16th May 1987, Coventry City FC achieved one of the few moments of glory in our club’s long history. John Sillett, George Curtis and a legendary team that will never be forgotten, lifted the FA Cup. Other than the return trip for the Charity Shield in August of that year, the Sky Blues have never enjoyed another Wembley visit in any competition.

It is unlikely that anyone under the age of 35 can remember that glorious day. Few fans younger than 40 will have been present when Brian Kilcline raised the Cup. All true Sky Blues fans have waited far too long for a taste of success. For the younger generations, there has been little to celebrate in all the years that they have loyally supported Coventry City.

On Tuesday night, we play Wycombe Wanderers in the semi-final of the Check-A-Trade EFL Trophy. This is a rare opportunity for the club to make that long overdue “march to the arch”. Regrettably, the EFL Trophy is a devalued competition, due to the misjudged re-structuring that allowed junior sides from the Premier League and Championship to enter this season.

Even so, a day out at Wembley would be one for fans to savour. Given all that supporters have had to suffer and the terrible state of the club, it is something that we deserve, particularly those younger members of the Sky Blue Army. Many of us fear that this could be the last chance for Coventry City

Therefore, the Jimmy Hill Way campaign is calling on supporters to turn up in large numbers and get

behind the team for the whole 90 minutes tomorrow night. We propose a truce for one night to see if we can cheer on our team to victory. It will not be easy, Wycombe are on a great run of form and gave Tottenham a massive scare in the FA Cup 4th Round.

So, if Sky Blues fans want a chance of a brief moment of history to cherish: “Let’s All Sing Together, Play Up Sky Blues.”
