The Fans Were Great - Thomas

Coventry City's George Thomas paid tribute to the City support after the 2-1 victory against Wycombe Wanderers which sent the Sky Blues through to a Wembley Final, something many of the club's supporters will never have experienced.

“It’s a brilliant feeling,” said Thomas to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire.

“We knew there would be a lot of fans here today and we didn’t want to let them down. And we got there in the end and did the job.

“The fans were great all game and it’s always better when they are really loud and cheering you on, especially in the second half when the pressure was on because it really did help and keep us going.

“It was a lively start and then, in the second half, when we saw Akinfenwa coming on we knew it was going to be a physical game. But I thought the centre-halves and centre mids dealt with him great. We are disappointed with the goal because we wanted a clean sheet but we’ll take going through.”

“The first was a great goal. I was running out because I thought he was going to set me but he turned and fooled everyone and hit a great finish on the turn and it was great to get that early goal.

“All credit to Kyel Reid who sent over an unbelievable cross for my goal. As soon as I saw the full-back coming for it I wasn’t sure if he’d get it or not and it shaved his head and I took my touch and tried to hit the target and it went in.

“It was a great feeling when it hit the back of the net.

“I am still 19 years old so to have the chance to play at Wembley is a really big achievement for me and the club as well. It’s just what we need at the minute to build everyone’s confidence up to do well in the league as well.

“We’ll enjoy tonight but when we are back in on Thursday we will concentrate on Saturday’s game because that’s a big game for us and we need to get three points and start moving up the table.”
