Taylor: Lovely To Get Maximum Points

Gillingham FC Manager Peter Taylor said that although he was happy with the win, he was not happy with some of his side's defending in the 4-2 win against Coventry City.

Speaking to Craig Tucker of the Kent Messenger, Taylor said: “It’s lovely to get maximum points out of the last two home matches and I’m delighted for the players.

“Yes, it was exciting, lots of goals, but strange as it sounds, I didn't like us tonight. We were so sloppy in our defending.

“Don’t get me wrong, Coventry have got some excellent players and you are really going to get asked questions when they get the ball because they do pass the ball around exceptionally well and if you haven’t got good shape you’re going to get tested.

“But I just thought we were a little bit too sloppy at times and, to me, the game could have been 4-4 easily.

“We just made silly mistakes. The spirit of the players is fantastic, cannot fault that in any way but I don’t want them to get too soft either.

“I just want them to think about winning matches and being a bit more solid.

“To me, we were a little bit sloppy and we allowed Coventry to get back into it.”
