Tanner In Charge for City's Trip To Newcastle

The currently appointed referee for Coventry City's Championship game at Newcastle United on Wednesday night is Steve Tanner from Somerset.

Mr Tanner got into refereeing when along with his dad, he was asked to take charge of junior matches. He went on a referees course to accompany his day and passed and decided to take up officiatiing seriously.

He refereed his first Premier League game in 2006 and was appointed to the Select Group Of Referees in 2007.

Mr Tanner was in charge of City's 2-0 win at Barnsley earlier this season and has had 21 matches so far this season. He has shown 65 yellow cards and four red.

Last season, he was in charge of the 0-0 draw at Swansea and at the 1-0 defeat at Forest and has also been in charge of the 3-2 defeat at Plymouth in 2007, City's 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley in 2005 and City's 2-0 win at MK Dons in February 2004.

Assistants are Paul Curry from Northumberland & Richard Wigglesworth from South Yorkshire The Fourth Official is Seb Stockbridge from Tyne & Wear.
