The currently appointed referee for Coventry City's Championship game against Hull City on Saturday is Steve Tanner from Somerset.

Mr Tanner got refereeing by chance. His dad was always being asked to referee junior matches and he went on a referees course to keep his dad company and passed with flying colours so decided to take up refereeing.  He was promoted to the Select Group Referees list in 2007.

Mr Tanner has had 34 matches so far this season and has shown 97 yellow and nine red cards. This will be his 14th Championship game of the season (including Hull's 0-0 at Crystal Palace) and his last game was Tuesday night's game which saw Millwall beat QPR 2-0.

His last City game was the 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United last season and previous City matches are the 2-0 win at Barnsley in August 2009, the 1-0 defeat at Forest in April 2009, the 2-2 at Blackburn in the FA Cup in February 2009, the 0-0 draw at Swansea on Boxing Day 2008, the 3-2 defeat at Plymouth in 2007, City's 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley in 2005 and City's 2-0 win at MK Dons in February 2004.

His assistants are Simon Bennett from Staffordshire & Mark Jones from Nottinghamshire.  The Fourth Official is Carl Dunn from Staffordshire.
