Former Coventry City winger John Williams has been given a suspended jail sentence at Worcester Crown Court for harassing his estranged wife.

John Williams, who played for Coventry City, Cardiff City, Hereford United and last season was at Boldmere St Michaels other clubs, had already been under a non-molestation order for attacking his former wife and hitting her in the face.

It was said in court, that Williams tracked down her and was spotted lurking nearby as well as making phone calls which left Alison Williams petrified on July 30th.

Williams, who is £40,000 in debt, claimed that he was looking for someone who owed him money. He already had had a 20-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months and 80 hours community service.

His barrister, Abigail Nixon, added that the former postman had entered into a sports management business. This involved scouting and attending football matches so she asked for the unpaid work commitment to be kept to a minimum as he had already completed 200 hours of unpaid work.

Judge Geddes hoped that Williams would accept the relationship was over and that the divorce which is expected in January.would end all the friction between the couple.
