Support Increasing For Jimmy Hill Road

Support is increasing for the idea of a road in Coventry being named after Jimmy Hill.

The idea which originally came from BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Brody Swain and has been seized upon by the Coventry Telegraph, has been backed by Coventry City MD Chris Anderson and Coventry City Council Leader Ann Lucas.

Chris Anderson told the Coventry Telegraph's Simon Gilbert: : “Coventry City FC fully support the campaign to have Jimmy Hill recognised in the city.

“Jimmy was a great man who did great things for the city through the football club. He gave us success on the pitch and he gave the club an identity off it which helped unite the Coventry community under one banner.

“The city should credit Jimmy appropriately and the club are continuing its plans to make sure we also pay him our permanent respect.”

Ann Lucas said: “Jimmy Hill had a big impact on football - as a player, manager and presenter. But he had a big impact on Coventry too and that's why we would love to honour him by naming a new road after him.

“The changes he brought to the game, such as abolishing the maximum wage, pioneering the three points for a win system and all-seater stadiums transformed football for ever, and anyone who was at the recent memorial service in the cathedral will know how much love and respect there is for Jimmy in the city.

“So I think it’s a great idea to name a road after him and a fitting way for Coventry to celebrate his life and the impact he had on football and the city.”
