Striker shortage for City

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn will take his side to the Championship's second highest scoring side Peterborough with an injury hit side.

Thorn has just two fully fit strikers in Lukas Jutkiewicz and Clive Platt, although Gary McSheffrey is also fit and can play as a striker if needed. Loan signing Gary Gardner can also play up front, but will more likely be used as an attacking midfielder.

Cody McDonald injured his knee in the 1-0 home defeat to Hull last weekend and will miss the trip to  the Posh. It was his first start in four games, having started previously on the bench. Thorn will play Platt in place of McDonald alongside City's leading scorer this season, Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Peterborough are second only to league leader Southampton with 40 goals to their credit so far this season while Coventry City have a measly 17 goals scored.

Thorn confirmed to the CT: “Cody will be out. He got a whack on the knee in the first half and he thought he would be all right but it stiffened up at half time and when he went out he had to come straight off. So he’s having treatment this week.”

In a bit of welcome news for Thorn, full back Chris Hussey has recovered from his ankle injury and should be fit to play on Saturday.

Thorn said, “He looks as though he will be OK for Saturday.”

Thorn has a dilemma as who to pick in his midfield, although he is without his captain Sammy Clingan who will be out until the new year because of a broken toe.

The City boss will persist with his preferred diamond midfield formation and will have to choose from Gary McSheffrey, Carl Baker, David Bell, Gary Gardner, Gael Bigirimana and Conor Thomas.

Thorn conceded, “We have got a fight on our hands and you have got to play people who are flying and showing that they want to play.
