Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has said that Gordon Strachan tried to get the City strikers playing like Robbie Keane when he was manager of the Sky Blues.

Strachan was a guest of McLeish's for a training session this week and saw Keane, who is on loan at Villa from LA Galaxy in training.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, McLeish said: “Gordon came in this week to observe training.

“He had Robbie at Coventry and said that his movement was just terrific.

“In fact, he said he tried to get Robbie to teach his other strikers - like Darren Huckerby - to do the same but it was difficult for them to make his movement.

“He was laying the ball off and spinning. It was all stuff he had done as a boy playing street football. He is self-taught.”
