Sphinx Knocked Out Of Birmingham Senior Cup

Coventry Sphinx were beaten 5-2 after extra time tonight in a Birmingham Senior Cup 1st Round tie at Nuneaton Town.

Danny McSheffrey's side shocked the Conference North side who have appeared in the last two finals when they took the lead in the opening minute through Junior Williams.

Nuneaton levelled in the 42nd minute through Danny Glover and went in front through Ben Pugh in the 64th minute.

Sphinx continued to battle and in the 76th minute, Jack Edwards equalised to take the tie into extra time.

Gareth Dean put Nuneaton 3-2 up in the 96th minute and goals in the 125th minute from Glover and two minutes later from Pugh gave Nuneaton a 5-2 victory.

Elsewhere, Bedworth United beat Biggleswade 2-1 in a re-arranged game. Brown put the Greenbacks ahead in the sixth minute before Hawkins equalised nine minutes later. The game was heading for a draw until Spencer struck the winner in the third minute of stoppage time.

In the Birmingham Senior Cup, Leamington beat Highgate United 4-1 with a brace from Angus and goals from Daly and Husband.

In the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup, Lye Town beat Racing Club Warwick 1-0.
