Coventry Sphinx can confirm that Martin Ascroft has tended his resignation as manager of Coventry Sphinx Football Club. Secretary Neil Long said, “Martin has taken this decision in the best interests of Martin Ascroft and Coventry Sphinx Football Club. He came to us earlier in the week to explain the way he was feeling, that his desire and heart for the job had wavered due to increased work commitments and family responsibilities and we respect the reasons for Martin making this decision and have therefore, somewhat reluctantly, accepted his resignation.”

“On behalf of all connected with Coventry Sphinx Football Club the committee would like to thank Martin for all of his hard work and efforts over his time as manager and thank him and congratulate him for the way in which he has guided Coventry Sphinx back to the pinnacle of local football. This was cemented with last seasons 2nd place finish in the Midland Combination and by winning both Coventry Evening Telegraph Cup and Midland Combination Willie Knibbs Challenge Cup to cap a remarkable season”

Assistant Manager Paul Charnley has been put in temporary charge for Saturday’s Telegraph Cup game versus Knowle at Sphinx Drive 1.45pm.
