Some players already training at Ryton

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that some of his players have been training at Ryton before the official start to pre-season training.

Mowbray told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I saw Pete Tierney last week and he mentioned one or two had been in and yet it has not been that easy for them because the place is being re-painted and new mirrors fitted etc.

“For me it’s modern day football. There’s competition starting at the top end with the influx of foreign players driving the market down the leagues so we have better players and better professionals coming down and you have to be ready and prepared in pre-season.

“You can’t moan about losing your place because of fitness because another guy has done more than you. Not just fitness, but developing yourself as a footballer.

“Whether your talent is crossing the ball, heading or striking it, no-one is stopping them, unless it’s a Friday afternoon, finding the extra time to practise.

“Why did David Beckham become the world’s best crosser of the ball, why did Le Tissier only miss one pen in 50 – it’s not by accident, It’s practice, practice, practice. It’s a culture as you move on and if we can breed that type of culture here then it will only be of benefit.”
