Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has been impressed with the Dutch striker Orlando Smeekes during his short trial with the Sky Blues to the extent he has offered Smeekes the opportunity to come to England and continue traing with the squad at Ryton.

Boothroyd is keen to see how the 28 year old striker, currently playing with German side Carl Zeiss Jena, who play in the third tier of German football, copes with English conditions.

Boothroyd has admitted he likes what he has seen so far of Smeekes, saying, "I have invited Orlando back for a week to have a look at him to see what he is like in our environment."

"He is very, very quick and very direct and gives us something we have not got at the moment, so with lots of irons still in the fire, this is a great opportunity to get him in here and have a look at him to see what he is like when it is not 35 degrees back in Coventry."
