Slade: We Wanted To Win

Last updated : 16 October 2016 By CNS Sport

Russell Slade has said that his Charlton Athletic side wanted to win in front of their own fans against Coventry City.

Speaking about the 3-0 win to his club's website, Slade said: "It’s been a frustrating time for us, for sure, and maybe the international break gave us time to address one or two things."

“Today, we were much more potent in the final third and I’m delighted for the players that we have managed to convert all of that work and effort into a victory.

“Everyone, attitude and work ethic-wise, has been terrific. We knew that Coventry were a good, footballing side and we also knew that, once the ball was turned over, we could find pockets of space to hurt them.

“We managed to get the ball out to Ademola and Ricky, created opportunities throughout the game to get goals and thankfully they came for us.

“We wanted to win in front of our own fans – that is really important to us – and, more importantly, the club needed a win. We’re all very pleased.”
