Slade: We Have To Do The Basics Better

Coventry City manager Russell Slade has said that his side have to do the basics better.

Had City players made tackles when they should have, been more accurate in their passing and crossing and kept hold of the ball better, they would certainly not have left the Memorial Stadium with a 4-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

Speaking about that loss, Russell Slade told the Press Association: "I have only had a couple of training sessions with the lads so I am having to learn about them quickly.

"It's clear they need a bit of help and we shall look to add some experience during the transfer window, while not overlooking any young diamonds we already have at the club.

"Today we were okay with the ball and showed good energy going forward. But we twice allowed a player we know to have a good left foot space to score with it.

"We have to do the basics better, like closing down and blocking attempts on our goal, but there were positives along with a lot we have to work on."
