Sixfields Going For Corporate Features Rather Than Seats

Northampton Town have decided to put in more corporate facilities at Sxfields rather than increase the capacity.

The plan was to increase the stadium used by Coventry City last season and probably this season, unless SISU can either acquire the Ricoh Arena for the pittance they want to pay or they accept the offer by the Keep Cov In Cov campaign group to pay the rent at the Ricoh Arena, to a capacity of 10,000.

However, the Cobblers have decided to only increase the amount of seats from 7,653 to 8,500 and install more corporate boxes in the East Stand, which last season was only used at City matches by visiting supporters.

Northampton Town Chairman David Cardoza is quoted by the BBC as saying: "There is no point in putting in extra seats if the club wasn't able to generate the income to deliver a team capable of filling them.

"This initial redevelopment is about improving the club's infrastructure and giving the club solid, sustainable income streams, both on matchday and non-matchdays.

"We have plans where we can increase the capacity again if and when we are as successful, as we all hope we will be.

"The club has never before, in its 117-year history, had such facilities or such opportunities to generate income and we will carry out further development work if we progress up the Football League."
