Sign The Petition

Last updated : 28 February 2014 By SBS

This e-petition is aimed at improving Football Governance for all clubs across the UK. Coventry City along with Cardiff City, Hull City and most recently Leeds United fans can all claim that they are being let down by football governing bodies who support owners against the demands of fans - dare I say customers! - on every occasion. By far the largest group of participants in the national game – the paying supporters – are mostly ignored by those who should be standing up for us.

Hence the e-petition ‘Without Fans there is no Football’ calls on the Select Committee for Culture, Media and Sport to re-open its inquiry into Football Governance following an ultimatum that they issued in January 2013 to the governing bodies – FA, Premier League, Football League – to bring about self-reform in the interests of supporters within 12 months or face legislation to enforce appropriate changes. Since that report was issued, the whole Coventry City saga has erupted so we are asking for it to be used as a case-study to demonstrate the manifest failings in governance procedures.

If you ask fans to identify who is mostly to blame for the demise of Coventry City Football Club from among the ‘Usual Suspects’ – Former Directors, Coventry City Council / ACL, the current owners Sisu in various guises and its operatives, the Administrator and the Football League – there is much dispute and different combinations of answer; we all have our pet villains. On the other hand, turn the question around and ask if any of the above are entirely blameless for this situation and there will be a very broad consensus that they all share some responsibility. It is also clear that there has been an appalling failure of Governance by the football authorities, so that the expressed opinions and interests of Sky Blues Supporters (and others) have counted for very little in their considerations. You can help by signing the e-petition at http://fixfootball.co.uk.

If the ‘Usual Suspects’ are called to account and better regulation results from this e-petition then this will not only aim to help sort the Coventry City mess, but also stop this from happening to other clubs in the future.
