Speaking to Sky Blue World,Richard Shaw thanked everyone who turned up to support his testimonial game last night.

The veteran defender said:"It's been fantastic, I'm quite overwhelmed really. The turnout for a Tuesday night is fantastic and it's been raining all day, it's a difficult location for some people to get to as well so to get over 25,000 is amazing and I'm very touched.

"The Celtic fans were fantastic all night, they never stopped singing. But I'd like to pay tribute to our fans because they turned our in their thousands and I'd like to thank both sets of supporters for turning out I really would.

"We didn't want a game that would be 10-9 with me scoring the winning penalty or anything like that, we wanted a competitive game because that's what Celtic is all about, they are a competitive team and they don't lose many friendlies. I played in a few under Gordon and I know how competitive he is and for us to get a 3-1 win I'm thrilled to bits, especially for the younger lads who came on and did very well.

"It was brilliant. I was quite frightened before the game because I was trying to take it all in and enjoy the occasion but you can't. For 48 hours I've not slept, I've been worried about tickets I'd left for friends and bar passes and car park passes, every pass going.

"I just wanted to make sure everybody else enjoyed it and I forgot to enjoy it myself half of the time. But once the game kicked off I really did enjoy it and they played some great football in the first half and it was a joy to watch it, I've got to be honest. But once we settled down and got to grips with the game I think we showed what a good team we can be."

Gordon Strachan said: "We knew it would be a risk bringing the players down to Coventry when the championship might still be a live issue back in Scotland. To be honest testimonial games aren't much value to us in football terms. "But there was a lot in it for other people in that it was a chance for Celtic supporters who can't necessarily get to see us play every week in Scotland can come along to the game. "Richard Shaw is someone I get along with really well, he was a fantastic professional while I was at Coventry."
