Shaw - We Can Play Better Than We Did

Coventry City Caretaker Manager Richard Shaw has admitted to being disappointed with his side's performance against Burton Albion in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy First Round.

it took penalties to decide who will progress to the second and it was keeper Joe Murphy who scored to give City a 10-9 win.

Speaking to Sky Blue Player's Nick Connoll, Shaw said;  "I was disappointed with the first half, very disappointed. There was a nervousness and lack of composure in our play and on the ball which surprised me because we had a really good session on Monday.

"We were really sharp and bright in training in the week and we asked the boys to take it into the game tonight and in the first half for some reason we didn't do that.

"We got a few things sorted at half time and we came out and had a go in the second half and we had some good chances from Gary McSheffrey, Stephen Elliott and David McGoldrick and I thought we did enough to win the game but I still think we can play much better than we did.

"It was never going to be easy tonight but there's no excuses for what we showed in our play. It's always nice to win a penalty shootout but we wanted to win in the 90 minutes.

"I just hope that we can approach the game on Sunday and bring what we know we can do to that game and get our first league win of the season."
