Saunders: It's A Cruel Game

Crawley Town manager Dean Saunders said football is a cruel game after his side were relegated to League Two following a 2-1 home defeat to Coventry City.

Crawley scored in the 48th minute and had a ten minute spell but had no answer when James Maddison and Frank Nouble came on and City went on to win with goals from Marcus Tudgay and Maddison, who slotted home from a Nouble cross in the last minute.

Speaking to BBC Surrey, Saunders said: "It's just a cruel game football, I mean last week was probably one of the biggest slaps I've ever had in the face, we were 3-2 up and today is another slap in the face. We were 1-0 up and in control, they didn't look like scoring.

"But there's such a fine line between doing well and doing terrible and right now we've not got enough points to stay in the league. Everybody's disappointed, we've done a great job in putting ourselves in the position with two games to go needing to win one. Today it makes you wonder why you do the job.

"I won't look back on the results, we've had some great ones, winning six out of eight at home and we've beaten a lot of top teams. We've still come up short on 50 points and it wasn't enough this year."
