Coventry City remain top of the league after their 2-1 home win against Preston North End.

Second are Watford who beat Ipswich 2-0. Former Sky Blue Adam Virgo scored for Colchester in a 3-2 home defeat by Burnley.

Other results saw wins for Charlton,Cardiff, Southampton,Scunthorpe, Bristol City and West Brom. Managerless Leicester drew 0-0 at Plymouth and Stoke drew 0-0 with Wolves.

In League One,Leeds boss Dennis Wise had a bust-up with Kevin Blackwell but Leeds beat Luton 1-0 to close the gap at the bottom of the table.

Lee Hughes made his Oldham debut. The killer whose late act of remorse this week fooled nobody in Coventry, played the whole game of a 4-1 defeat at Hartlepool. Carlisle managed by Greg Abbot are still second after a 1-0 win against Cheltenham Town.

Trevor Benjamin scored for Hereford in a 2-0 win at Wrexham.

Locally, in the Conference North, Nuneaton Borough beat Stalybridge Celtic 2-1 with Rugby Town winning 3-2 at Gloucester City in a BGB Premier Division fixture. 

In the Midland Alliance, Coventry Sphinx were beaten 3-2 at Stapenhill. kyle Rhodes and former Sky Blue Tom Cudworth scored for Paul Charnley's side. Racing Club Warwick lost by the same score at Coalville Town. 

In the FA Cup, Russ Dunkley scored the only goal of the game for Leamington in a 1-0 home win over Shifnal Town. Former Sky Blues Tom Bates,Avun Jephcott and Ben Mackey also played for the Brakes.

Bedworth drew 1-1 at South Normanton Athletic with Ben Porter scoring for Martin Sockett's side.

Roy Dunkley hit a hat-trick at Atherstone won 3-1 at New Mills whilst Rory May scored twice for Stratford in a 2-0 win at Southam United.

In the Midland Combination Premier Division, Loney scored for Coventry Copsewood in a 2-1 defeat at Heather St Johns. Nuneaton Griff won at Continental Star 2-1 with goals from Hammersley and Gaisley whilst Hansen,Franklin and Byrne all scored for Massey Ferguson in a 3-1 win at Walsall Wood. 

In the Presidents Cup 2nd Round,Stockingford won 4-1 at Alveston. Division 1 action saw Leamngton Hibernian beaten 4-1 at home by Knowle. Warwick Town draw 1-1 with Northfield Town Res whilst in the Reserve Division,Coventry Sphinx won 2-0 at Coleshill Town.
