Birmingham City are two points clear at the top of the Championship. Gary McSheffrey was on target for Steve Bruce's side in a 3-0 home win over Plymouth. Birmingham are top as Cardiff drew 0-0 at Colchester and Preston lost 2-0 at Luton Town.

Leicester City were stuffed 4-1 at home by Sheffield Wednesday whilst there were wins for Crystal Palace,Southampton,Sunderland and West Brom for whom John Hartson scored the only goal of the game at home to Derby.

City's next opponents Burnley drew 1-1 at Ipswich whilst Cov kid Danny Nardiello scored twice for Barnsley at Dennis Wise's Leeds United.

The league table sees Coventry City now in 12th place.

Elsewhere, Craig Bellamy who was found not guilty at his trial in the week scored twice for Liverpool in a 4-0 win at Wigan whilst the only real shock in the FA Cup saw League Two Hereford United who knocked City out of the League Cup stuff League One Port Vale 4-0 at Edgar Street.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough drew 0-0 with Harrogate Town, Rugby Town drew 1-1 with Maidenhead but Bedworth United beat Berkhampsted 2-1 in a Southern League Midland Division fixture at The Oval.

In the Midland Alliance League Cup, Leamington beat Westfields 2-0 with former Sky Blue Tom Bates on target for Jason Cadden's side. Atherstone Town beat Studley 4-3 but Racing Club Warwick are out after losing 2-1 at Tipton. In a league game,Stratford beat Cradley 1-0.

Coventry Sphinx kept up their good run of league form with a 1-0 win at Barnt Green Spartak. Sphinx centre half Terry Ward scored the only goal of the game.

At Allard Way, it was goals galore as Coventry Copsewood were beat 7-2 at home by Nuneaton Griff. Alveston put in a good performance to beat Walsall Wood 2-0 but Massey Ferguson went down to a 1-0 defeat at Highgate.

Both our local sides are out of the Presidents Cup, Leamington Hibernian lost 3-1 on penalties at Archdale after a 0-0 draw whilst Stockingford were beaten 1-0 at home by Newhall United.

Warwick Town and Coventry Sphinx Reserves matches were postponed.
