In the Championship today, there were wins for Birmingham (1-0 at Derby), Luton who beat Leeds United 5-1,Norwich a 1-0 win over Cardiff,Preston,Sheffield Wed,Southampton,Sunderland and Ipswich.

Locally, Nuneaton Borough beat Barrow 3-0 at home in a Conference North Fixture.

In the Midland Alliance,Leamington won 3-1 at Boldmere St Michaels with Martin Thompson scoring twice. Atherstone Town won 2-1 at Oadby, Stratford won 4-0 at Rocester and Racing Club Warwick drew 1-1 at home to Market Dreyton.

Coventry Sphinx twice led at Continental Star through Craig Martin and then Mark Owen. However, Paul Charnley's side allowed the Oldbury based home side to score twice. Sphinx hit the bar and had a goal disallowed late on but went down to a 3-2 defeat. Sphinx travel to Alveston for a Birmingham Midweek Floodlit Cup game on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere in the Combination Premier Division, Coventry Copsewood lost 4-1 at Brereton, Massey Ferguson lost 4-0 at home to Meir and Alveston drew 0-0 at Highgate United.

Coventry Sphinx Reserves went out of the BCFA Vase with a 4-0 home defeat to Stockingford AA. The visitors fielded their first team and took a 21st minute lead through Ross Genna. In the second half,Dave Aston and a brace from Steve Hinds completed the rout.
