Noel Whelan was a sub for Dunfermline in a defeat against Carlisle United. Whelan told the Dunfermline website after the game: "It was a good 25 minutes work out; that's what I needed. I have got a week I guess. It is a long season as long as I can stay fit and do the right things from week to week, I should be working better. "I was a free agent but my agent phoned up a few clubs in Scotland the other day. Jim was straight on the phone; it is a smashing club, there are some good lads here - some I know from Aberdeen and from Livi. The manager has been great, I feel quite relaxed and so I just have to knuckle down with some hard work in the build up to the start of the season. Hopefully I can get a contract."
