There were Championship wins for Barnsley who signed Colin Healy in midweek at a Colchester side who now have Mick Harford as their assistant and Plymouth Argyle who made the most of their longest trip of the season winning 3-2 at Sunderland.
There were also victories for QPR,Derby who have signed former Sky Blue Stephen Bywater on an emergency loan from West Ham,Leicester and Norwich for whom Darren Huckerby scored. The games at Southampton,Stoke,and Sheffield Wednesday were all drawn.
Locally, Nuneaton Borough kicked off their final season at Manor Park with a 0-0 draw against Workington in a Conference North fixture.

The Midland Alliance also started with wins for Leamington 1-0 v Oadby Town with Josh Blake on the scoresheet for the Brakes and new boys Atherstone Town who won 3-2 at Causeway United. Racing Club Warwick lost 2-0 at Quorn whilst Stratford Town drew 1-1 with Market Drayton Town.
In a friendly,Bedworth United drew 2-2 at Didcot Town.
