Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has said that new signing Andy Rose is going to have to learn how the Sky Blues play.

The Australian, who was last playing for Seattle has signed a deal until June 30th 2017 and speaking about him to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Mowbray said: "He’s another one who has got to learn how we play so I think with Andy we’re going to have to get him on the grass and playing with the Under-21s to get him up to speed.

“Is he going to get in front of Fleck and Vincelot straight away? No. Depending on what happens with Gael Bigirimana there’s more competition for him but I painted a picture for him and he knew what the situation was when he signed.

“He has to come here and get himself in the team and he has got the attributes that give him a good chance of doing that. Let’s wait and see how much he fights and is desperate to play.

That’s the secret to football when you can bring players in and they can learn rather than have to go straight in,” said Mowbray.

“He will learn how I want him to play the position.

“He came in a few weeks ago and it was a case of ‘wow’ because he was running everywhere, like a marathon runner and that’s a fantastic attribute to have and yet my central midfielders don’t run everywhere.

“They stay pretty central and they keep the ball moving around the pitch for the forward players to go and create havoc, for our full-backs to attack, wide players to come inside and centre-forwards to run in behind and they give us a platform to play from.

“I said to him at the time that if that’s how he is and he’s not going to change then he’s no good for me. But if we can harness those qualities, the athleticism, size and those legs and ability to pass it then he’s got every chance. And he was happy to come and have a go at that, so let’s see how the next few months go.”
