Robins: We Showed Real Courage

Coventry City manager Mark Robins felt that his side showed real courage in their 1-0 win over Southend United at the Ricoh Arena.

The win, thanks to Jordy Hiwula's second half goal, which Southend boss Chris Powell felt should not have stood, sees City doing the double over the Shrimpers and ending 2018 with two home wins.

Robins told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: “We played against a side today who scrapped right the way to the end, they never give up and they press and fight. We matched that, and we showed real courage today which I was really pleased with. We’ll see who the characters are now who want to fight and scrap for their place.

“When you’ve got eight minutes stoppage time and you’re one nil up, you know that they will throw caution to the wind, but we’ve got to try and control that last eight minutes if we can do. They’re going to have some attacks, but we need to make sure we’re solid.

“There are ways which we can keep possession of it and make it a less fraught finish.

“We looked at it and we weren’t playing particularly poorly, but there was something that wasn’t right. It was disjointed and sometimes you need to have a changeup. We’ve done that, and it’s worked for these two games.

“Nobody is resting on their laurels, we have to make sure that we keep it going because this is a really important time of year.

“I still feel that we could have a say towards the end of the season again. With 21 games left to play it is all there to play for. We’ve got some tough games coming up both home and away, but we can look forward to those games and try and have some fun.”
