Coventry City manager Mark Robins showed some sympathy towards the City supporters who watched the Sky Blues lose at Morecambe.
City supporters from the Midlands, London, Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and plenty of other places, made the trek to the Globe Arena in some horrendous weather with rain and snow and saw the Sky Blues made to look very second rate by the Shrimps.
Speaking about the support, Mark Robins told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I have got to come and talk about a game that was frankly embarrassing.
"We have got supporters travelled in horrendous weather and worked hard to get themselves up here and we haven’t given them anything; not given them any value for money and that’s one the things that really annoys me, really hurts.
“The fact that people pay good money to get up here and not see their team get anywhere near the Morecambe side today.”
Robins blamed the players, who were booed off both at half and full-time, for a lack of hard work and said: “You have got to work hard and match the opposition for desire and we didn’t do that today. They made changes and made sure they out-fought us.
“Vadaine Oliver had the game of his life and put our two under real pressure at the back. We were disjoined and never worked them out.
“We didn’t work hard enough in the first half and they kept getting out down the side.
"The first goal was off-side, two yards without question from the free-kick. That’s no excuse, and I’m not looking for excuses.”
Robins also said: “I have got to say that was absolutely men against boys right from the start to the very end, and very difficult to come to terms with just now.
“The players know how I feel. I think on that showing, on today’s game we’re nowhere near a side that deserves to be anywhere near the top of the league.
“That was poor, as poor as we’ve been and no real know-how or fight.
“That’s still no excuse, we just looked lacklustre. It’s very, very difficult to take, that’s for sure.”
