Robins: We Edged It

Coventry City Manager Mark Robins said that his side were the better team overall after the 2-1 win at Oxford United.

Robins told the media: "I  think overall we were the better side but they are a good team who have had a decent run of results recently. Everyone has been talking about them turning the corner and it’s always a tough place to come.

“And it was really tight, not a great deal in it and I thought we just edged it.

“We were looking for that little bit of luck, which we got when Shipley got himself in a great position. Conor Chaplin made a great run, held it up and laid it off and Shippers has got a shot away that has taken a deflection and gone in.

“That’s what you’re looking for when you haven’t scored too many goals this season, just looking to give you a kick start and get you up and running.

“We got that and then Shipley made a great run and was brought down by the goalkeeper and gave us the advantage to go 2-0, and we took that with Conor taking his penalty really well.

“And it’s taken a hell of a lot of work to go two goals up before conceding a rubbish goal from a set play. It was a decent delivery but not a great goal to concede with five minutes to go.

"But we just had to work hard and weather a bit of a storm without feeling too under pressure, and we defended well and saw it out."
