Robins: Very Hard To Take

Last updated : 08 December 2018 By CNS Sport

Coventry City manager Mark Robins told the media it was very hard to take as the Sky Blues went down to a 2-1 defeat at Walsall.

Luke Thomas had given City the lead after 18 minutes but two late goals from Luke Leahy including a penalty sent City to defeat.

Robins told the media: “It is very hard to take because it wasn’t a deserved defeat by any stretch of the imagination.

“It’s a story of not taking chances – we could have been three or four up in a game when they (Walsall) have not really done anything – and then we made a horrendous mistake.

“I have just watched it back and it’s never a penalty in this world.

“It’s very, very difficult to take. Apart from that, and it’s difficult to talk about it because it has cost us the game, apart from that four minute spell we had the rest of the game.

“I thought we were very good otherwise. It’s just not taking our chances and conceding those goals. The decision making was so bad! It was appalling at the end, but anyone can make mistakes.

“If we’re going to jump on that then they’ll be afraid to try things and that’s not what we want.

“The referee has made a mistake and he’s made that error, in my opinion, for the penalty. And the one in the first half that he didn’t give, maybe was.

“But it’s really difficult to take on the back of a really good performance when we should be talking about a good performance and a great three points.

“They got back in the game and you expect them to because they have some powerful players and they made some changes towards the end, but what we stopped doing was what got us the stranglehold in the game and gave us the lead.

“But, having said that, we had chances to go two, three, four nil up.

“Yes, Burge made a good save just before the goal but we can’t make decisions like that, we really can’t because that’s poor.

“Again, everyone makes mistakes and that one has cost us dearly today and he has got to bounce back from that one.

“Shipley had an opportunity, as did Luke Thomas and Jonson Clarke-Harris, I mean great chances and we haven’t put the game to bed.

“If we score one more there we win the game and go on because things would have opened up more as well but we just looked a bit nervy because we hadn’t taken those chances.”
