Coventry City manager Mark Robins said that his side have to learn after losing 2-1 at Scunthorpe United.

Robins said about the defeat which saw Conor Chaplin pull a goal back for City after they had given The Irons two goals to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

“That performance is exactly what you’d expect from a team that contains so many young players.

“Scunthorpe have got a lot of experience and what they do is they make you work really hard away from the ball towards our own goal.

“I think we were sometimes a little bit on the back foot and I think we allowed that to happen, and that’s a little bit because of the make-up of the team at the minute.

“I thought that it was a fairly even game without us really getting the energy that were akin to the performances that we have had lately.

“The disappointing thing is that we have got to get to a stage where I want them to relax and I want them to take the game to the opponent because we could see what happened at the end when we threw caution to the wind.

“I don’t mean throw caution to the wind right from minute one but I mean go with and attack with that purpose that we showed towards the end.

“There are some good things within our make-up and our play but we just have to make sure that we learn from this.

“And for the rest of the season we have to show no fear, absolutely no fear, because places like this are a difficult place to come and has been for a while for Coventry.

“They have conceded 29/30 goals this season and they are fragile but they have won three on the bounce now and we have allowed that to happen really, and that’s the frustrating at the moment. But I understand that because of the make-up of the group.

“I think set plays were almost really good but there’s a bit of naivety there and you have got to expect that. I can’t expect them to perform like experienced players because they are not. They are inexperienced players so what you are seeing is what we have.

“So I am not going to be too critical of them, but they have to learn.”
