Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said that no-one has told him that the Sky Blues have to be promoted this season.

“There are loads of positives from the last few games against the top sides, 100 per cent there is,” Robins said to the media after the defeat to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

“It’s just results.

“We want the results to be better because we want to be challenging again this season at the top end, although no-one has told me we have got to get promoted.

“So at the end of the day we are looking at trying to make it as enjoyable as we can, learn quickly, get results and the supporters can enjoy it.

“You can see they’re enjoying it because they can see something’s happened but they’ll be frustrated, and I share that frustration with them.

“And I think the players will as well, in all fairness. But they have got to learn. They don’t just turn up for work, do the job and go home and think, ‘Oh we were unlucky there'.

“No, they have to learn from it because there were things to learn from Tuesday night. When you lose games you can always learn from it. We could have gone for the jugular against Portsmouth.

“We didn’t look frightened, just a little unsure and ran out of ideas whereas they sat in deep and we had to keep the ball moving.

“Even Tony Andreu , who is an experienced player, didn’t quite know how to unlock it for us and for me, that was a disappointment because he’s a good player and he just didn’t show that.

“And that was one aspect of a performance that promised to deliver at times but just ultimately didn’t.”
