Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said that signing David Meyler on loan is a real coup for the club.

The experienced Meyler joined on loan from Reading yesterday along with former Chelsea youngster Charlie Wakefield whilst Michael Doyle, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Abu Ogogo all left.

Speaking at the press conference this morning, Robins said to City's press office: "David Meyler is a real coup for us, he’s played at the top level, international and he has a lot of experience and quality.

I only spoke to him for five minutes and he wanted to come here and for me the quality of the signing speaks volumes and I’m delighted with that one."

Speaking about Charlie Wakefield, who has joined on an 18 month contract, Robins said: "Charlie has had some injuries and he’s got over that and I looked at him prior to that and he was going to sign for a Championship club, but he came to us.

"He said he’s ready to play. He’s played 8 games on the bounce and a couple of 90 minutes and he’s a real pacey wide man that brings us another dimension."

The departure of club captain Michael Doyle has left many City supporters gutted and Robins said about his departure to Notts County: "From my point of view I was mindful Doyle wanted to play. He was struggling with not playing regularly and we’ve had numerous conversations and I tried to help him.

"We will talk to him in the future about coming back in a coaching role once he has got all his qualifications."

On Abu Ogogo, who left to join Bristol Rovers, Robins commented: "Abs is a great lad, but the way the team was evolving it means we couldn’t get him in.

"The players that have gone hadn’t been in the team as of late and it became clear they wanted to play and it gave them that opportunity. I tried for a couple more to come in, but once we’d missed the ones we were looking at we had to move on.

"I’m thankful the window is closed and we can get on with it and look forward to the rest of the season."
