Coventry City manager Mark Robins said that his side showed the desire to come back with a 6-1 win at Cheltenham Town after losing 4-2 at home to Lincoln City on Tuesday night.

Speaking about the win which lifts City to sixth in the table with one game to go, Robins told the media: "After the energy they expended against Lincoln it was absolutely magnificent.

“For me, they showed that desire to come back.

“Cheltenham are no mugs. They have taken points from Luton, Mansfield – some of the top teams – and we have demolished them,

“So I am less angry and a bit more happy today.

“I thought we set out pretty well from then start, looked dangerous and we found their Achilles heel really early,

“There were some good goals; Bayliss took his brilliantly, McNulty’s header was outstanding from a great ball in from Jack Grimmer, which is what I have been talking about with Jack who has got great quality on the cross and it was great quality on the header.

“Shipley’s run from midfield to arrive in the box for his goal was outstanding again and McNulty’s goal where he has chased it down and got there first and hit the goalkeeper’s shoulder and looped in was another good finish. A good striker’s goal.

“We could have had a few more in the first half. We came in at the break and everything was good but on the flip side we knew they would make changes.

“They are one of the top goal scorers in the division so it was pleasing to be four up at half-time and then to come out in the second half, knowing they would get a reaction.

“It took us a little time to get it sorted out but once we had done that after conceding the penalty, which was the only disappointing thing – the only real blemish on the day – we then scored two more great goals.

“It was a great overhead kick from Max and McNulty got his third to finish it off.

“So it was a good day day because we wanted the three points, we needed the three points and we leap-frogged Lincoln and we’re happy about that going into the game next week.”

Opposition View

Cheltenham Boss Gary Johnson said to Gloucester Live: "Well, I am as disappointed as everyone else. Nobody likes getting beaten 6-1.

"What can you say? The start is the same as the finish and I am obviously disappointed with the result.

"They were a lot more lively than us. They did score against the run of play at bit, funnily enough. We had some play, but unfortunately we didn’t look to have the power and the pace of them as the half went on. In the second half they were playing for their pride really as individuals and when you put it onto them in a personal level, they all picked up a little bit. Getting the goal was good, good for Mo to score again, but their two strikes in the second half were fantastic strikes. Their goals were really good, well worked goals. We didn’t do enough to get anywhere near them. We’ll look at that and rebuild with that in mind.

"Every time you get a result like that you rebuild a little bit more and you need more players to rebuild what you need to have to compete at this level."

City Sixth With A Game To Go

Coventry City are sixth in the League Two table with a game left.

As it stands, the Sky Blues need a point at minimum, although a win could see them finish as high as fourth. City face Morecambe who need a result to remain members of the Football League if Barnet win their final game against already relegated Chesterfield.

Today, Accrington Stanley were confirmed as League Two Champions after beating Lincoln 1-0 with Wycombe Wanderers booking the third automatic place with a 2-1 win at Chesterfield.
