Robins - A Good Game

Coventry City manager Mark Robins has said that it was a good game as the Sky Blues drew 2-2 with Luton Town after being two goals up.

Speaking about the game which saw goals from Peter Vincenti and Marc McNulty give the Sky Blues a first half lead before headers from Scott Cuthbert and Cov Kid James Collins earned Luton Town a poin, Mark Robins told the media: “I thought it was a good game and good advert for League Two.

“We started off brilliantly and took the lead early on. We played some good stuff and kept them away from our goal and dealt with the physical side of things pretty well and got into a two goal lead.

Coming in at half-time we spoke about being solid and competitive and keeping a high enough line to keep them away from the goal because a clean sheet obviously wins you the game.

“We have been decent at that, certainly at home, but we conceded a really poor first goal. First and foremost we commit the foul and then the cross comes in with quality on it. We lose the man and Burge comes for the ball and doesn’t get it and the next thing the ball is nodded into the empty net, which was a big disappointment.

“What you can’t do is expect the goalkeeper to catch it. I can expect him to catch it and the supporters can expect him to catch it. But as a defender you have got to anticipate that he might miss it and then you can go and clean up the mess. But there’s a switch off, Jonno (Jonson Clarke-Harris) knows that and yet his performance was outstanding.

“And yet one little thing cost us. They got their tails up and they ended up getting the second at the death. Another cross came in and we have not dealt with the ball in the middle.”

“Having said that, there was some really good attacking football. Their keeper has made a couple of good saves, Jonno has had a chance, McNulty has had a chance, Kyel Reid had a shot at the end and we were on the front foot trying to get the winner, so it is a really good game but just disappointing because we have thrown away the two points really and standing here now it feels more like a defeat.

“Having said that, the point takes us into the play-offs and we now have a ten game season.”
