Ricoh Arena Affecting City

Whilst there is only one place for Coventry City to be playing their football and that is the Ricoh Arena, not some tinpot Sisu/Garlick Dome in the Coventry Area or out of the city completely, it is fair to say that the splendour of the Ricoh Arena is having an affect on the Sky Blues.

Since dropping into League One, it has become highly noticeable that away teams are raising their game at the Ricoh Arena.

Players from opposition teams which started as far back as Bury, when they played out of their skins to get a 2-2 draw in August 2012 to the likes of Worcester City, Chesterfield and Fleetwood Town have all been inspired to perform better in the plush surroundings of the Ricoh Arena, a stadium far better than virtually everyone else in the lower two divisions of the Football League.

This is backed up by some Stevenage players we spoke to, who admitted that they were far more up for the game at the Ricoh Arena which they won 2-1 in September 2012, than last season's 1-0 win for City which was played at Sixfields, one of the worst grounds in the Football League, because they were getting the chance to play in a top class stadium.

With Steven Pressley having lost the dressing room to Wasps and the Sky Blues now in what was the away dressing room, might it be an idea for City to act like an away team and be up for every game played at the Ricoh Arena in the way that smaller visiting teams are, in a bid to get some much needed home points and push up the table?
