Coventry City captain Sam Ricketts has said that the Sky Blues have a huge potential.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph, Ricketts said: "If you put it in perspective we’ve probably had a good season, but it’s tinged with disappointment given the start when everybody’s expectations went up.

“A lot of teams in the league have said we’re the best team they’ve played this year so it’s disappointing we didn’t have that little bit of consistency we needed just after Christmas.

“The gaffer is a very astute manager – one of the best I’ve worked with and I’ve worked with a lot over the years – and I’ve really enjoyed playing under him and learning a lot. And I see Coventry as a club where, when things get sorted out, there is huge potential.

“The club has got such fantastic support and without that there’s a ceiling of how far you can reach.

“With all due respect Burton have probably over-achieved by getting to the Championship. If you look at Coventry and it’s support there’s no reason why they can’t do a Swansea, a Southampton – you’re even looking at Leicester.

“There’s no reason Coventry can’t achieve these things because if you’ve got the support you’re a long way down the line to doing it. It’s just a question of getting all the pieces in place – building a club from the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top. When you engage with the fans, get everybody pulling in one direction, you can get huge momentum.”
