Coventry City captain Sam Ricketts has said that James Maddison has huge ability.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Ricketts said: I think Madders has got huge ability.
“He’s a player who during the pre-season players from other clubs were asking about and in all fairness I’d never heard of him before.
“It wasn’t until the start of the season that I realised why so many people were asking about him. He has such natural ability to turn in tight areas and take people out of the game.
“He has a tremendous first touch which is probably his biggest attribute and probably from the five games at the start of the season I thought he needed to be more effective in the final third.
“I told him on Monday before the game to come and get on the ball and do what he wants to do because when you are playing in the No.10 role you have got to score goals, so to get two in the last two games is what he needs to do in that position and he’s playing very well.
“Physically he still has a lot to develop but he beats people with his skill and manipulation of the ball which is a massive asset for when he’s older. He might not develop physically until he’s 22 or 23 and then he will be ale to hold off people with his strength as well and that will be another aspect to his game.
“While he’s developing he needs to play and he’s fortunate that the way we play with a No.10 it’s a very good position for him.
“Going back a few years I think he’d struggle playing 4-4-2 because of his style and his stature, but the way we play suits him down to the ground and he’s showing huge promise and keeps improving.”
