Long time Coventry City target, Richard Wood has been at Coventry, meeting the players at the Ryton training ground and then went on to a meeting with chairman Ray Ranson to discuss terms.

Ipswich Town are said to be interested in the defender as well. If the deal comes down to a purely financial choice, then Ipswich will probably be able to offer a better deal than Coventry City.

A deal is believed to have been agreed between the clubs whereby Wood would join Coventry on loan initially and then sign for them fully when the January transfer window opens

Woods has been with Sheffield Wednesday since he was a boy and has never moved out of his native Yorkshire, so he is keen to be certain he has made the right choice of new club. Location could be a key factor in which club he chooses.

Coventry City manager, Chris Coleman is eager to boost his defence and add to his injury ravaged squad.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws says that Woods, who came through the Owls' Academy, should have been a mainstay of the side for years to come.

Laws told The Yorkshire Post, "I don't blame any player for wanting to earn as much as they possibly can but I see Richard, only 24, with his best years ahead of him.

"He should have had more time here, but it was his prerogative and I am disappointed with it."
