Remembering Highfield Road Calendar

It marked the end of an era when Coventry City Football Club moved from Highfield Road to the £113m Ricoh Arena in 2005.

Having played it's football in the Hillfields/Upper Stoke area since 1899, some of the most amazing memories in the club's history were those experienced at Highfield Road.

In more than one hundred years, supporters llike myself, have followed the same routes on foot that our fathers and grandfathers have walked to Highfield Road. Whether it was along the Binley Road, up Ball Hill - from the Rose And Crown on Walsgrave Road, or from town - down Jordan Well and up Far Gosford Street, stopping off for a pint at the old Pitts Head, before a pork batch from the Pig In The Middle, we may have had slightly different journeys or pre-match preparations, but our destination was the same.

As a City supporter, I wanted to ensure that even if our recollections fade over time, there would be a permanent record of our stay for fans and the people of Coventry to reflect on.

To this end, I spent three of our last seasons at Highfield Road from 1999-2002, in all kinds of weather, photo-documenting the lives of local people, fans, fast food stalls, their owners and the pubs which all helped to bring the area around our old home ground to life before and after every match.

Now you can remember those days every day of 2011 with a desk top calendar. Available for £10, the calendar in a neat presentation box, will be on sale at home matches in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year.
