Reid On Leicester Defeat

Talking about the defeat at Leicester last night, Peter Reid said: "For the first time I've got to say we didn't compete which we usually do. Forget about the goals - we lost too many tackles and we gave the ball away easily. It's a football match and you want to compete and make it hard for the opposition and with the greatest respect to Leicester I don't think we made it hard enough for them.

"I don't think the players gave me everything and that's the first time I've had to say that and it's very disappointing. It was Craig's (Levein) first home game and it was going to be very difficult - the players were aware of that but for some reason we didn't have the stomach for the battle or the game and that was particularly disappointing. We were second best from one to eleven.

"We just lay down - we couldn't pass the ball and we couldn't win a tackle. We didn't do enough individually or as a team - why was that? I have no idea but it was very disappointing. As a manager you think that working hard and giving everything you've got is a prerequisite but the players didn't do that. "With the extra man in midfield I wanted us to pass it through midfield but we didn't do that so we had to do something - I decided to try and have a go at them and even though it was slightly better second half it was nowhere near good enough.

"There's no magic wand, it's hard work. If we'd have shown as much enthusiasm as our supporters we might have given them a game but certainly we did not show that all over the football pitch.

"I'd love to reassure the fans they won't see that again on Saturday. I think the players owe me and the fans with performances until the end of the season because that was really disappointing."
