Referee Assessor Say Penalty At Gillingham Was Wrong

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has received a letter from the referees assessor saying that the Sky Blues should not have had a  penalty awarded against them in the defeat at Gillingham on January 17th.

Ryan Haynes put in a cracking tackle, but the assistant clearly influenced by the home support indicated a penalty and Cody McDonald stepped up to score against a City side which had led 1-0.

A third goal for Gillingham meant that even if the penalty had not been awarded, City would still have lost.

Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner:  “The referees’ assessor has analysed the footage and says that the officials absolutely got it wrong.

“I am not making excuses but there are elements going against us. It doesn’t change anything but we should take confidence from their assessment and start building on it.”
