New Coventry City Chairman Ray Ranson has been speaking about the hunt for a new manager.

Ranson, who sacked Iain Dowie in a Monday morning dawn raid of the training ground, for reasons more than poor results and team performances, told Sky Sports News: "The defeat against West Brom was difficult to take. Everything that could go wrong went wrong. The best thing was sitting with Trevor Brooking but it was a bad day at the office."

Ranson refused to get drawn into a slanging match about the dismissal of Iain Dowie who had been interviewed for Sky by City supporter Richard Keys. Dowie claimed that Ranson had never seen him coach the players and if he had done then could he comment on his ability.

Ranson did say that "At no point had he said anything about Dowie's coaching. Iain will bounce back and we move on"

On the new manager which Ranson refused to name, he said:"We have been sifting through the applications. "This proves nobody was lined up and we are confident of filling the manager's role within the next 24-48 hours.

"We are talking to the new man all the time and he is the right person for Coventry City to take us forward.

" The financial future for the club is safe but we have the biggest squad in the Championship and there is major rebuilding to do. "The new manager will get my help to do this."
