Coventry City Manager Chris Coleman has said that he is proud of the young players who played against Hartlepool United in the League Cup last night.

Fielding a side which resembled a reserve team due to injuries and international call-ups, City were beaten 1-0 in extra time.

Said Chris Coleman to the CT: "That's one less competition to worry about and I wouldn't be looking forward to taking on Burnley with a weakened team.

"We're disappointed because we set out to win and on that performance I certainly don't think we deserved to lose.

"I was proud of the way the kids performed because it's very hard to have so many players making their debuts at the same time.

"I think the crowd appreciated that. If we had lost by three or four and the lads hadn't been at it, then we might have had a backlash.

"I know for a fact that they couldn't have tried any harder - and that was worth twenty reserve games to them."
