Coventry City manager Steven Pressley is hoping that his young players can deal with the pressure if they play at the Ricoh Arena.

There have been problems over the years with a number of fans, particualrly those on day trips from schools and groups, who have booed and abused some of the younger players, adding to the pressure.

Speaking about whether his young players would cope with the pressure, Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole:  “I certainly hope so.

“That often separates the players – you never truly find out how your players handle pressurised football or setbacks until they experience.

“Often when a young player goes into a side the initial period is his easiest period because people don’t expect too much from the. They’re given that period of grace; once you’ve been playing for a period people begin to expect and that’s the test whether or not a player can go on to the next level or not.

“Whether they can reproduce that when we play in a more intimidating arena which is the Ricoh – these are the questions our young players need to answer.

“That’s something the football club needs to look at if we return to the Ricoh – if we can create a greater atmosphere, how we can utilise the stadium to do that.

“When we played at Wolverhampton last season they had the advertising boards closer to the field; that happens at a number of stadiums – it closes the pitch in so it feels more intimidating, more intense.

“It’s an idea we could consider and we could look at where we try to enclose all our supporters. That’s something the club will need to engage with the supporters to find the right solution.”
