Pressley Frustrated After Draw At Orient

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley felt frustrated after the Sky Blues 2-2 draw at Leyton Orient.

City have not won an away league game since March and Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole:  “The word I’d use is frustrated!

“That applied to me and the players because we were in so much control and that was a game that we absolutely should have won.

“There were encouraging signs; we’re still searching for that first win away from home but it was important that we didn’t lose after last week’s victory because it keeps that belief going.

“I’m delighted with the response after going behind and I think our supporters appreciated the players’ efforts today.

“But after a cagey first 10-15 minutes when neither side could get a foothold on the game  we dominated the first half – never looked in danger – and again in the second half. Over the course of the game Lee Burge only had one real save to make but two set plays cost us dearly and in this division you have to deal with that.

“The first one was direct from a corner when we lost our man and the second one was second phase. We have to do better in these situations because we put so much into the game – so much hard work, so much endeavour.

“But I said to the group at half-time that good teams score late goals; it’s the sign of a good team when you never give up but continue to push for the equaliser which was the least we deserved over the course of the 90 minutes.

“I thought we looked a real threat today but we just needed that second goal to give us some breathing space. Things change very quickly in football and if you don’t kill them off you’re always in a precarious situation.

“When the home side get their goal it gives them fresh energy and belief. We reacted well to that but then lost a second goal to a long diagonal – something we’d spoken about and worked on in training.

“There was some really good football in there; I have to pick out Jack Finch who, for 18 years of age starting his first game in centre midfield was outstanding. He’s a terrific talent.

“Gary Madine gave us a real presence up front; he produced a beautifully weighted pass for the first goal and the second came from his pressure.  And Aaron Martin acquitted himself very well; he was strong and mobile.

“In fact I think everybody contributed today; all in all it was a good performance, but we have to start turning those good performances into wins.”
